Fine and Performing Arts (Grades 3-5)

At Wilton Public Schools, our core mission is to provide an excellent artistic and academic education. We push students to explore personal expression, think deeply, and build a lifelong love for learning. Through the arts, we prepare students to live full, productive lives and adapt to a fast-changing world.

We are dedicated to building a school environment rooted in mutual respect, cooperation, and understanding.

Why the Arts Matter

We use the arts to enrich our students' overall education by:

  • Connecting subjects: Showing how the arts link directly to other academic classes and the world around them.

  • Building self-worth: Helping every student discover their individual value and importance.

  • Fostering empathy: Teaching compassion and respect for the dignity of diverse cultures and communities.

Curriculum Standards & Big Ideas

Our visual arts curriculum at Cider Mill School aligns with the National Core Arts Standards. Throughout the year, students will explore major themes and "Big Ideas" that connect their art projects to history, culture, and core academic subjects.

Student Learning Goals

This school year, our program encourages students to:

  • Think critically: Practice creative problem-solving and analytical thinking through hands-on projects.

  • Explore history: Learn how different cultures and historical eras are reflected in visual art.

  • Express emotions: Use a variety of artistic methods to give voice to abstract concepts and personal feelings.

  • Build confidence: Learn to trust their own creative instincts and take artistic risks.

  • Master techniques: Gain control over the images they create by mastering new concepts, tools, and materials.

  • Speak like an artist: Develop an advanced vocabulary to confidently discuss and analyze professional and peer artwork.

  • Share with pride: Create meaningful artwork that they are excited to showcase to the community.
