Weekly Lessons & Rehearsals
-
Start Dates: Group lessons begin the second week of September. Morning rehearsals begin in October (exact dates will be announced).
-
Lesson Schedule: Lessons occur on the same day every week on a rotating schedule to avoid students missing the same academic class more than once every six weeks.
-
Rescheduling: Students may only reschedule lessons if requested by their classroom teacher for tests, special activities, or field trips.
-
Morning Rehearsals: Mandatory 7:00 a.m. rehearsals occur once a week as part of the Instrumental Music curriculum.
-
Parent Information: Detailed rehearsal information will be covered at Band Parent Information Night and at the bottom of this page.
Instruments & Supplies
-
Renting Instruments: Most beginning students rent online or over the phone. We strongly recommend choosing in-school delivery to ensure instruments arrive safely before the first lesson.
-
Trial Rentals: Select short-term trial rentals rather than full-year agreements so your child can test the instrument first.
-
Finding Vendors: Search online for local rental stores or reach out directly to the director for recommendations.
-
Required Supplies:
-
Home music stand (promotes proper posture)
-
Tradition of Excellence, Book 1 (Baritone Horn students must purchase "Bass Clef")
-
Metronome (for practicing steady beats)
-
Alto Saxophone & Clarinet only: Vandoren #2 reeds (box of 10) and a cleaning swab
-
Class Expectations
-
Daily Practice: Play for 10–15 minutes at home every day homework is assigned.
-
Punctuality: Track the rotating schedule and arrive on time.
-
Preparation: Bring a pencil, method book, and instrument to every lesson.
-
Engagement: Listen carefully, participate actively, and ask questions.
